I was kind of a loner growing up. I floated between groups and had a close friend here or there but I never felt like I belonged anywhere. I never felt completely accepted. When I was 25, I bought a house and rented out the extra rooms and my first sisterhood formed! Stepping out and leading and inviting attracted other women that were like me. I've found the same to be true of running challengegroups. When you create an environment where empathy and understanding are the focus, you free people! Where there is no judgement, there is no need to hide!
Those years spent in that little house with those amazing ladies was the first time I felt completely seen (and loved anyway) by a group of friends. They were the first challenge group for me! It was as their love and support that molded my vision for Angels of Valor. It's funny how just one person saying, "I've been there and I am here. You can always talk to me without judgement.", can free you up to live wholeheartedly! Feeling the freedom to be imperfect to make mistakes but to still be loved and belong is what we all need! I used to tell myself that I didn't want female friends because they were catty but the truth is most women are not, mostly we are quiet and hiding from judgement. Be the first to issue the invitation, to reach out, to make others feel accepted and you will find yourself in the most amazing group of friends you've ever had! And as always, you are welcome to join our sisterhood! Our focus may be on health but it's more than just physical strength we are after, we are on a mission to be unapologetically ourselves and we want that for you too!

I'm guilty of this! I'm always looking to the right and to the left to see if I am standing out in both good and bad ways. I am always trying to figure out if I am a good wife, a good mother, a good coach....
There really is no real answer to that though. Each person is unique with a completely different life and skill set. We can no sooner compare oureselves to someone else than we can compare apples and oranges. However, we CAN set goals! We an look at our own life and see things we know need changing and work on it! You are your only competition. I tell my challengers when they start a new work out program that they might not be able to last the full minute drop set the first round. They may only last 15 seconds into a move. The only think I ask of them is that they shoot for 16 seconds tomorrow! That's true in life as well! You only need to be better than you were yesterday in any area of your life to keep growing! So put your blinders on, look at the person in the mirror only, and do your best to be better each day! Be so busy with your own grass that you don't notice the shade of your neighbors! I am not a lover of cold food! it takes a lot for me to enjoy a salad and this is one of the best I have ever had! I LOVE it! This is one of the recipes from the Ultimate Rest a few weeks ago and it has become a staple already! This recipe is for one serving but I suggest making enough for some leftovers!
You will need: 3 medium carrots, grated 2 Tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil 2 Tablespoons of fresh lemon juice 2 Tablespoons of chopped fresh cilantro 1 clove of garlic, minced 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon ground paprika 1 dash of cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon tsp Himalayan sea salt 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper ( to taste; optional) Romaine lettuce 1/4 of an avocado Combine crrots, oil, lemon juice, cilantro, garlic, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and cayenne ( if desired) in a large bowl; mix well. Cover and marinate in refridgerator for 2-3 hours before serving. Serve over romaine lettuce with some avocado! So good! The moment we truly begin to change is when decide to play the hell out of the cards we've been dealt. No complaining. No excuses. It's not always fair but we aren't powerless. Do what you can with what you have! #hitme
